This A Body Rear Sway Bar is a 1.0″ hollow sport bar for 1967-72 Dodge and Plymouth A-bodies (Dart, Demon, Duster, Valiant, Scamp and Barracuda). A hollow 1.0″ bar gives you more roll stiffness than a solid 7/8″ bar, without the extra weight.
Why add an A Body rear sway bar
Many A-bodies left the factory without a rear bar. As a result, the body leans in corners and the front tires do most of the work, so the car pushes. A rear bar reduces body roll and flattens the car in turns. It also sharpens turn-in and improves balance in quick transitions, so the car feels lighter on its feet.
Because the bar is hollow, it keeps the stiffness where it counts while saving weight. In addition, it pairs well with a larger front bar for a balanced, predictable feel.
What’s included
- 1.0″ hollow steel rear sway bar
- Axle brackets and 3″ axle U-bolts
- Greasable bushings and bushing brackets
- Dog bone end links and frame brackets
- Mounting hardware and grease
Fitment and installation notes
The bar mounts to rear ends with 3″ axle tubes. It does not fit the 7-1/4″ rear end, because the axle tubes are too small. The end link frame brackets weld to the frame rails, so plan on welding. Before final assembly, check clearance for the end links, exhaust, wheels and suspension through the full range of travel. Then recheck all mounting hardware after the first road test.
Not sure what rear end or brakes you have? Call us before you order. For the front, see our A-body front sway bar, a 1.5″ hollow bar for the same cars.
Which rear bar size is right? For most street and autocross cars, a 1.0″ hollow rear bar is a good match for an upgraded front bar and torsion bars. However, every car is different. If you’re running very large torsion bars or a very stiff front bar, call us and we’ll help you balance the setup.
