Our Power Steering Oil Cooler keeps fluid temperatures in check on Mopars running an updated steering box. It comes complete with integral mounting brackets, AN6 or 3/8″ barb fittings and mounting hardware, and it suits all BAC steering box kits.
Why add a power steering oil cooler
Modern quick-ratio boxes run at higher operating pressures than the original Mopar boxes. As a result, the fluid gets hotter, especially in traffic, on the track or on long summer drives. Hot fluid thins out and breaks down. Then the pump gets noisy, seals wear faster and steering feel suffers.
A cooler gives that heat somewhere to go. That’s why we recommend one with every BAC steering box kit. In fact, it’s cheap insurance for your pump, box and hoses.
Features and installation
- 13″ overall length, compact enough for most engine bays
- Integral mounting brackets
- AN6 or 3/8″ barb fittings
- Mounting hardware included
Install the cooler in the low-pressure return line, between the steering box and the pump reservoir. Mount it where it gets good airflow, such as in front of the radiator or the A/C condenser. Also, keep it away from moving parts and sharp edges. Use hose rated for power steering fluid, and secure every connection. Finally, fill and bleed the system, and check for leaks with the engine running.
Pair it with our 62-68 or 69-72 power steering line kits for a clean, leak-free conversion.
How do you know you need one? A pump that gets noisy once it’s hot, or fluid that looks dark and smells burnt, are both signs of heat. Even without symptoms, a cooler costs far less than a new pump or box. So for track cars, cars with big tires and cars that sit in summer traffic, we consider it a must.
